Data protection declaration

By order of Dr. Nico Fengler (Unit 301), data protection officer.

The BVL takes the protection of personal data very seriously. We want you to know when we collect which data and how we use them. We have taken technical and organisational measures to make sure that the rules on data protection are observed not only by us, but also by external service providers.

It is generally possible to use the web offer of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety without disclosing any personal information.

If you send us an e-mail or contact us via the contact form, your personal data will exclusively be used for the correspondence with you. If you order a publication, we may, if necessary, forward the provided personal data to a third party (supplier, authorities) for the exclusive purpose of having the desired publication sent to you. After your order has been completed, your data will be deleted. Inquiries by citizens in paper or in electronic form are stored according to the periods of time laid down in the archiving directive for the storage of paper documents.

With each access to our server, data are saved for statistical and security purposes. In this context, the IP address of your internet service provider, the date, time and visited web pages are recorded for a limited period of time. These data are used exclusively for the enhancement of our web services and are not evaluated in any way in which they can be traced to you. However, in case of serious infringements of our terms of use and in case of non-authorised access or attempted access to our servers, we reserve the right to initiate the tracing to personal data using individual data sets.

Use of cookies

In general we use so-called session cookies on our websites, which store data relating to technical session control in your browser's memory. These data are not personal and are deleted at the latest when you close your browser.

If, in exceptional cases, we also have to save personal data in a cookie, we will explicitly ask for your consent beforehand. Furthermore, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that browsers in general have features for administering cookies. Even if you deactivate the cookies, the full functionality of the website is given.

The BVL takes technical and organisational security measures to protect personal data from loss or misuse. For example, your data are saved in a secure operating environment, which is not accessible to the public. In certain cases, personal data are encrypted during transfer by the so-called Secure Sockets Layer technology (SSL). This means that the communication between your computer and our servers is effected using an accepted encryrpting technology, given that your browser supports SSL.

If you wish to contact us via e-mail, please note that the confidentiality of the transmitted information cannot be guaranteed. The contents of e-mails can be viewed by third parties. We therefore recommend to send us confidential information exclusively via post or - after registration - via the Virtual Postbox.

Protection of minors

Children or individuals under the age of 18 should not transmit personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians.
We do not request personal data of individuals under the age of 18, do not collect such data and do not transmit them to third parties.
